Hey everybody, first of all i'd like 2 help all the amazing and helpful people out there! u guys r awesome!
I have a 95' Isuzu Rodeo 3.2
I just replaced the "tensioner arm" (little shock looking thing that holds pressure on the tensioner pully for the timing belt) that i guess is a common problem on these i've been told? (clattered around sounded like a rod, replaced, and it's quiet again)
However, there seems to be a slight clicking from the top end still. Is there any adjustment there? (i opened the valve covers, and didn't find any excessive wear or tear, and i didn't see any obvious adjustment.) Is this a hydrolic set up?
OH! 1 more question, the dealer sells the exact same part as the one i pulled off the car (tensioner arm) however, sum people r selling a "new design" one that is shorter with a longer rod. What's the deal with that?
thanx!!!

Wow, can't help there, never heard of that new design.
However, I would be interested to learn where you obtained the tensioner & how much it cost. Other than Isuzu dealer, I can only find it in the aftermarket at Autopartswarehouse.com for $92 +S/H. Did you pay more/less than that?

I don't know if it lets u click on the above link, if not, cut and paste ^_^ It's an ebay item, click on the picture of the item and if you zoom in you can see the "Notice" that says it's a "new design". I paid 71 and change (well, came out to sumthing like 78 and change with tax) but basically the same because u have 2 consider shipping. The one i got is OEM, and this "new design" is different.
Thanx! If anybody know's a bit more about Isuzu 3.2 and is willing to give me a bit of insight on why my top end is clicking, please let me know!
regards

Thanks for the tip on the tensioner. That does look like a really good price.
With regard to the top end tick, have you been able to isolate the location? My fuel injectors make a constant clicking sound, but that is normal as the pintel opens/closes.
If it appears the noise is high & on one side or the other ( i.e. inside the valve covers) and is clearly proportional to engine speed, the valves may simply need adjustment (shims), or there may be a more serious issue with the valves, guides, springs or cam. Obviously have to remove valve cover to check it. A mechanics stethascope (or a piece of hose) should help isolate.
I don't suppose you've had a chance to do a compression test?
Best of luck.

The lifter noise on 3.2L Isuzu engines is very common. Mine is very noticeable. It can be fixed but usually at the cost of replacing the lifters which are expensive and also possibly replacing some other parts. I haven't really investigated what exactly is causing my lifter noise, mainly due to the fact that valve cover gaskets aren't cheap and we're a bit short lately.

I only get lifter noise when at the end of the oil change interval. Quickly resolves with some fresh 10W-30.

What oil filter are you using??
If it's a Fram that-alone could be the culprit; these engines do not like Fram filters.
Try using Valvoline Maxlife 10w-30 or Rotella synthetic 5w-40 with a Pureone filter - works great in this engine.

Hey, you'll have to expand on that? Not fine enough filtration? Too much restriction?

I don't rightly know exactly what the cause is with the fram's; but, in general, they are NOT good filters at all, for any vehicle.
Now, their AIR filter is one of the best, but I wouldn't touch their oil filters with a 10' pole.
In fact, when we bought our first Rodeo, back in '91, it was actually mentioned within the warranty paperwork, that if we used Fram filters the warranty was voided.
