Patriotism

I have to say something truly amazing about these United States.

I live about 40 minutes due South of Pittsburgh, PA. Since we have all realized our humanity as a result of the plane that crashed just an hour and a half from our homes this area has become alive with genuine patriotism. It is truly incredible for me to get out of my car on campus and see literally dozens of american flags attached to cars. Atleast every other house has a flag proudly displayed infront of their house. My car, despite it's retracting antenna, has a red white and blue bow tied to the front to display my pride.

I ask everyone, who hasn't already, to find some manner of displaying their pride in this incredible superpower. Put up a flag on your car antenna. Hang a flag from a window. Be proud of our land, because we will soon have to fight to defend our pride!!! :flash:

I find tragedies like this always tend to unite people more than anything, and that's what helps the most at times like this. Showing your support for your country really let the world know that you and any like you will back your country, and that you're not gonna put up with any more terrorism.

There is nothing better than going to the street races, and seeing 95% of the cars have flags on them.

This event has certainly resurrected a sense of nationalism. If every dark cloud indeed has a silver lining, this must be it. It is so heart-warming to see all the patriotism and love for our country.

I remember growing up and visiting my grand parents, and always seeing their American flags and other, in my opinion at the time, over-stated symbols of devotion to the United States. I used to wonder "what's the deal with all the flags and crap?" I now know that because they lived through events like Pearl Harbor, they grew a certain love and affection for our country and all that it represents, because they saw it fragile and shattered by evil. Now we have seen it too, and I would say to my grand parents, that I also understand. It is a big deal, and to not believe in it is practically heretical to the definition of being an American. Bearing the flag is to be proud in something that has rarely, throughout history, stood for as much as it does now.

This event has affected us more deeply than we will have a firm grasp of for years to come. It has made us love, respect, and appreciate where we live and what it stands for. For that, I am grateful, even though the price was so unforgiving. Taking what we have for granted is a true evil, one that I can see so clearly now. We will never in our lifetimes be allowed to forget again.
