Towing Question

My wife and I have towed our two horse gooseneck trailer with out 2000 ext cab short bed 5.3l Silverado for many miles and never had any problems. We now have the same truck in a 2005 model and the only thing different is the old one had 3.73 gears and this one has 4.10. We are using the same Prodigy P3 digital controller but the trailer bucks when you are just about to stop. Kind of like when you tow a bumper pull trailer when you start and stop. We have the same B&W gooseneck mount in the bed of the trailer.
Any ideas?

I do not think your gears are the problem. I think you need to make a minor adjustments in the controller.

Ok...I'll call the factory in the morning and see if I'm doing something wrong. I drove around for awhile dragging the trailer and when I set the voltage lower it seemed to help...but then the controller isn't set to just below wheel lockup when you use the emergency stop. We've used a Prodigy controller from the beginning but have been using the new Prodigy P3 controller for the last month or so. Maybe something is wrong with it...if the factory can't help I'll switch controllers back and see what happens.

Here are my findings...I plugged in my old Prodigy and it did the same thing. I can get it to lurch by just releasing the brake and then applying the brake. Not hard...just normal foot pressure. Then, when I had the trailer unhooked I took the ball out of the B&W turn-over mount and stuck it into the receiver on the trailer and locked the collar. There is no movement laterally...but when I move it vertically it clunks up and down. I called B&W and they had me measure the ball and it appears to be correct. For some reason the ball is different on my old B&W mount that I bought almost four years ago.
The funny thing is, the lady who has the trailer next to us has an 05 Silverado with the exact same mount and guess what...it clunks too! She thought it was her el-cheapo controller but I don't think so.
Maybe if we can get mine fixed we can get hers fixed too.

I towed the trailer all over the place empty and then examined and tested the wiring and the mount and it all looked OK. Today my wife took the truck and trailer out with the horses and said it didn't make the noise once. Maybe the empty trailer didn't have enough down force on the ball when stopping. I think everything is alright but I'm still going to look into it some more in the morning when the trailer shop opens.
