Wheel Hub Bearing???

My 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP scared me on my way to work. When I applied the brakes, the ABS and Trac light came on and it felt like my ABS was trying to work. From what I read it is probably a bad wheel hub bearing. Is that right?? Also, will I be OK to drive it home?? It felt like I was gonna lose brakes.

Possible bad hub/wheel sensor but best to get it scanned with an ABS capable scanner. Other possibility is the electrical connector to the wheel sensor, wiring along the control arm or the EBTCM module. Although the ABS light is on and ABS is disabled the conventional braking should be fine so you can drive it home.

Ok, so now the ABS and the Check tire presure lights stay on all the time. Is this the same problem???

Problems are all related since the low tire warning system uses the same wheel sensors as ABS and traction control. Let us know what you find or how it turns out. Good luck.

Not to change the subject by any means, but do all late 90's GTP's have the Tire Pressure Monitor? If I do, I had no idea....

That is a very good question and is a muddled issue on '97-'03 models. What I do know is '97 models have it, at least the GTP. It uses the ABS wheel sensors for wheel rotation to calibrate and trigger. One tire has to be 12 psi lower than the other three or something like that. There is a yellow button under the dash where you can reset the light (hold for a couple of seconds until light goes out). Best thing to do is consult your owner's manual I believe at Chapter 5 or 6. For example in the 2000 GP owner's manual it makes no mention of the low tire pressure monitoring system, the light or how to reset it. :dunno:
For the later GPs beyond 2003 GM uses a more sophisticated TPM system where there is a pressure sensor/transmitter on the wheel, a receiver and you will get actual tire pressure readout.

My 99 GT doesn't have a TPMS either Bob.
