I have a '96 contour 4cyl auto. Turned the heater on the floor position, worked fine. Turned it back to defrost and it still worked fine, but now no matter where I turn it to it only comes out at defrost even if it’s at the floor position. What could be the problem, would appreciate any help..................................Mike

Look for a vacuum line that is disconnected. Check for a ported vacuum switch behind the dial you turn.

OK, I can see the controller. both lines are on. What operates the controller, Is it electric or is it the two lines that are on it? Do both lines run to the switch? Just trying to pin point the problem, is there a way to test the system from inside before I start searching through all the vacuum lines under the hood, so many lines!

Normally their is a rotary vacuum switch behind the dial your turn to change the setting. I would use a vacuum gage to determine if vacuum is reaching the unit. Follow the vacuum diagram.
