Engine Problems

I have a 2001 Chev. Silverado. I turned on the truck and the engine turned over, but then very quickly died. I turned it on again pressed the gas and the engine would rev as long as I held the pedal dawn a little. I was able to drive home, but at any intersection where I took my foot of the gas the engine would fade and die. I would have to restart the truck and get my foot to the pedal. Ideas?

The same thing happened to me in my Nova - Check your timing

The timing on these engines are entirely computer controlled - there is no distributor on the V8s. The 4.3 V6 has a distributor on it, but this is also computer controlled and timing is set by the OBD system. The CMP (cam position sensor) is located within the distributor housing on these 4.3 engines.

What's likely happening is you either are out of gas, have a restricted filter or a fuel pump that's about to go tango uniform. If you're sure it has gas, obtain a fuel pressure gauge and hook it to the fuel rail on the passenger side of the intake - you will see a Schrader valve and this is the port you attach the gauge to. The pressure must be at least 55 PSI for the engine to run properly.
