1 Thing I'll Never Do Alone Again....

And for those of you who know me and were going to say "sex"... thank you, it's nice to have friends who understand you, but no....
its - PUTTING IN A DAMNED MOTOR.
Yep... tonight, all by my mother-fucking self, I put RD's heart back in, and it was the mother of all bitches (yes even that one you were thinking about). Took about 4 hours, had to take it out 3 times, disconnect the exhaust, remove driver side header and cuss an amount that would stagger most truck drivers, but WOOT... it's in there.
Tomorrow night I'm gonna get the trans back in, and trim up the exhaust (have to cut it 3" for reducers) and maybe start wiring it up.
Still don't have my new carb yet, debating on whether or not to use old one... have someone interested in it, but checked on Ebay and the most they're going for is $100... don't think he wants to pay that much so F him if he doesn't, mine is in better shape.
I'll post up some pic's when I get a chance... It doesn't look all that great - silver motor in a black bay - but when I eventually get it (the whole car) repainted, it'll fit in with the rest of the scheme perfectly. Besides, this color will show all the friggin leaks, dirt etc, so my blind ass will know if I've got an obvious problem that I would have otherwise not noticed.
Ok, gotta roll - gotta seminar tomorrow friggin early, and I'm beat.
Take it easy fellas, I'll update when I get a chance.

Fun stuff... I know how that goes... Why didn't you put the motor and tranny back in together? I would think that would be easier than separate...

Jim, Jim, Jim......
Problem number one, if you remember putting it back in, you didn't have enough beer wich slowed the process down. I always find it very thoughtful of me to wake up in the morning with bleeding knuckles and a pounding headache on the garage floor with a freshly cmpleted project sitting there. :icon16:
Problem 2, believe it or not, most times it's a shit load easier stuffing the eengine and tranny back as one. But that does require atleast 2 people.
Problem 3, you really thought any of this would be easy :lol2:
EDIT
Problem 4, I had to reread that whole thing about 6 times over laughing my ass off seeing your name in that groovy pink font there.

Heh... pink font... just noticed that. WTF?
Yeah - did it by myself, and couldn't manage engine and trans together.
Trans in last night. That was the mother of the other mother of all bitches. (Hah, there's a lots of bitches in my garage.)
Just need to wire it up, get some fitting and hoses, and should be good to go. WOOT! WAIT! I need to know how to set the timing, etc - probably hafta go buy a damned timing light, huh? AND THEN learn how to use it, huh?

So what was up with the trans? Was it the pressure plate?

How about a better question, what wasn't wrong with the tranny?

It WAS the pressure plate... that no good bitch.
Anyhoo...
1. Motor in and bolted down.
2. Trans in, cross-member in, everything all bolted down.
3. Starter in and wired.
4. Clutch pedal in and bolted down.
5. Spark plugs in, rad hoses hooked up.
6. Started connecting oil pressure and water temp gauges.
Need to Finish:
1. Put drive shaft in. (10 minutes - after I get the new U-Joints on.)
2. Put carb on, put new fuel hoses on, reconnect all the friggin things that I know I took off there but can't find.
3. Reconnect brake pedal - lost fucking thing that goes between brake reservior and pedal. (10 minutes - after I the friggin thing I lost, or go buy a new one.)
4. Finish wiring gauges.
5. Correct wiper motor switch wiring. (This can wait)
6. Correct heater wiring - might have bad relay. (This can wait)
7. Hook up exhaust to headers - considering getting glasspacks just because I can't seem to find a 3" pipe flaring tool. to get the reducers into the exhaust. Friggin flow-ass-ters. (5 minute fix, as soon as I find the damned tool for under $1000)
8. Get ALL 4 wheels rebalanced - friggin stick on weights fell the hell off... on all 4 wheels! (Who's the dipshit that invented sticky-tape wheel weights? Somebody smack that idiot upside the head for me.)
9. Put hood back on.
NEED:
New speedo cable - apparently A/M won't use stock cable - bastards.
Hinge bushing for doors - on back order.
Timing light - That oughtta be cute - wanna good laugh, watch me try ro figure that sumich out.
WANNA GET:
3 point seat belts.
Wider front tires and rims.
New alternator bracket - used old one for now.
(Post up pics tomorrow - don't have any of it in there yet, but here's one on the hoist...)

Haha, cool, I was doubting myself for a second there but like I kept saying, the only thing that would cause a gap of that size would be the plate. I hate it when I do that.
Anyway, search around and find a good "old school" exhaust shop, I'm sure there has to be one that can solve your reducer problem.
Also, if you have to replace the rods for the pedal to brake booster note there is a depth adjsutment that will effect brake performance!!
Other wise, looks good, although how long did it take the kid to pass that stool? :icon16:
You know what's really funny, that night I was laying in bed about half asleep and woike up bursting out laughing. I kept thinking of you saying you were going launch parts out in to the yard which gave a idea for a new anti-stress game:
Remember that ball in the bucket Bozo game? You know the one that had like 7 buckets nearest to furthest? Well, let's up the ante on that one, you use the same concept, except the buckets would be lined with explosives, obviously the one furthest away being pure TNT for the blast that fucking uncooperative part to smitherienes effect. :lol2: Let the image soak in for a second you'll see.

NAHHH. I get to rub "IT" any time I want. LMAO. AND I get to look at that purdy engine, and soon, listen to her SCREEEEAAAAAAAMMMMMMMM!
Found the brake rod, can't find the friggin c-clip that held it on. sonofabitch.
Also, just found out that Harbor Freight has 3" exhaust tools I need for $30 for both..WOOT! Save myself some clammage and not hafta redo the WHOLE exhaust or pay some "expert" to fix it as good as the last one did. Might also pick up the prybar set they have listed for $12.00.... I need to get in and out of that store as quickly as possible.
I'm getting so stoked about thinking about this getting done I may hafta go see the young lady (wife is 7 years younger than me) and have a wiggle. I'LL BE SLEEPIN' GOOOOOOOD TONITE FELLAS!

Harbor Freight is awesome, hands down, might not be the best quality stuff around, but gets the job done, holds up fairly well, and if it does crap out on ya, you didn't blow a ton moeny on it. I haven't broken anything of theirs yet tho, the only thing I was dissapointed in is the ratcheting double offsets I bought. They're a bit bulky and reverse direction rather easily. Tap and die sets aren't that great either, but efficient.

THERE's some useful info. Did it just not work, did it break, what happened? I'm kinda a little screwed up, can't hook it up, can't drive it with open headers (been warned by quite a few people). I think I almost have to get it and try it, but I'll get one from somewhere else if it's that bad.

Whats wrong with driving with open long tube headers???
Earlsfat
10-28-2007, 03:07 AM
Theoretically there's nothing wrong with it... but it was loud with a full exhaust... I went to 3.5" headers, and up a valve size in exhaust... There is a noise ordinance where I live and the local cops are pricks about it. Actually the cops are cool, the chief is the prick and what he says goes.
I may take it around the block just for shits and giggles with open headers just to see... but I don't need to give the government any more money than I already do.
