im looking into buying a '98 z28. ive heard of this emissions related transmission...issue, where the car switches from 1st to 4th instead of 2nd when going less than 15mph, or something. ive also heard bout fixes, like modules that are plugged in between the tranny and stock cables, do these work? thanx

the tranny switching like that is for fuel economy but I think is skipping 3rd gear not jumping from 1st to 4th, but you can bypass that.... how, dont know but I know it can be done.

You will need a skip shift eliminator:

PFYC (Parts for your car) is a great reliable company. I highly recommend them. As for the skip shift, yes it is from 1st to 4th, and this will eliminate that for you. And for $15 that's not a bad deal.

Or you could get a 2.2k Ohm resistor from radio shack for a few cents and follow the instructions at http://www.installuniversity.com/install_university/index.htm
