Hi.
My sister owns a 1998 Eclipse GS-T and about a year and a half ago she drove it home drunk in L gear (low) and fucked the engine up.
The next morning we went to push the car into the driveway (it was crooked) and I slipped in a puddle of antifreeze.
She had it looked at and pretty much they told her she needed a new engine.
My question to you is this:
Would it be possible to replace the engine in it (the turbo engine) with a NON TURBO model from a GS or RS model?
And if not, where would I find a turbo engine?
Im thinking about buying the car from her for 1,000$ non running and fixing it, but I dont feel like dropping 6,000$ on a new engine, ya know?
I want it to be a fun little project for me, but in the mean time I also want a fucking car!!
Thanks for any help/input/LINKS/or anything you may have.
Thanks!! =]

it is not possible to swap in a non turbo engine without spending more money than a direct replacement. You wouldn't want one anyways the 4g63t is alot better than the 420A. As for links they sell them alot on ebay as jdm engines and such. They come with everything you need.

that's a nice one right there, quick question, if he swaps engines, or anyone swaps engines, is there anything that you need to do? like report it to dmv or something?

Report it to DMV? I hope not, otherwise I'm about 4 reports behind on the eclipse.
thexyz, you can usually find good deals on used ones on ebay or try www.car-part.com. It's a nation-wide salvage/auto repair site and you can probably find some good deals near where you live. For a used motor I wouldn't pay more than about $1200-1500 for a used longblock with less than 75k. If you do end up getting one, make sure they come with like a 90 day warranty or something and also do a FULL tune-up. $2000 for motor + misc. parts + 1000 for car = 3000 for a running DSM. Not too bad.

Gotta love it when they pressure wash an engine clean of oil and road grime and burns from leaky exhuast gaskets :/ can't tell where - if any - the problem areas are that way...kinda shaddy to me. I remember ordering a VG30DE and they pressure washed it. made the mistake of installing it , fired it up and it leaked out a whole motor of oil within a weak out of the VC's , Oil Pan , rear main was shot , just problems gallore.
I would invest in a turbo rebuild. It will be cheaper to rebuild than to rebuy unless you go extreme performance anyways.
