Testing fuel pressure regulator

The fuel pressure on my 94 GA V6 was only 28 psi at idle with or without vacuum hose plugged in. So I blamed the pressure regulator since fuel pressure was not changing with vacuum pressure, and took it out. Before I put a new one, I made a tester. This regulator opens at about 44 psi and it seems work fine. Since I do not have any vacuum pump, vacuum test was not done. Is it fine to assume the regulator is good?

if you have 28 psi when idling then I'd say the FPR is bad.

So i'd assume your tester is fualty. :grinyes:

My tester was confirmed working with a new FPR. The new one also opened at about 43 psi with my tester.

If you only had 28 psi with the FPR on the car and with your invention read 44 psi then I'd assume your reader is wong.

So did this replacement of the FPR solve your issue(s) ??

I made both fuel pressure and regulator testers by myself. Both testers were calibrated with high quality p-gauge. When the fuel pressure gauge was used on my Windstar, it work perfect. For the regulator tester, I checked the opening pressure of my FPR and a brand new FPR. Both showed the onset pressure of 44 or 43 psi. I guessed my FPR is fine and put it back. My next step will be checking injectors or fuel pump.

So your tester can test both fuel pressure and vacum :confused:
