Problem after installing throttle body spacer

Hi I just installed a throttle body spacer on my 96 accord lx, I don't know if i did anything wrong since it was a pretty simple procedure but anyway, when i start my engine now, it starts revving like crazy and keeps going, I panic and don't know what's happening so i quickly switch off my engine by the time it reaches 7000rpms. Can somebody tell me whats going on and how to fix this?

You have a serious air leak in the manifold. I don't know what you mean by a throttle body spacer. Go to the Majestic Auto parts site and pull up the picture of the throttle body and tell me what the number is for the part you replaced.

it's just a phenolic plastic or aluminum spacer you put between the throttle body and plenum to theoretically give the intake air more velocity...it helps low end torque on some engines, some don't respond much to it.
I'd guess wide open vacuum leak too or the cable is in a bind somehow...is the throttle plate fully closed?

It's the Helix throttle body spacer, and yes I tightened the bolts all the way, I can't make it any tighter so I'm ordering new gaskets and I'm gonna see if thats the problem... and what do you mean cable is in a bind jeffcoslacker? Which cable could this be?

Make sure the throttle cables move freely and the plate closes fully when throttle is at rest. Did you loosen it up and make sure there isn't a wire or something that got caught in between parts and is causing a leak?

I untightened and tightened many times and replaced the gaskets and used gasket maker but no luck. Are the throttle cables the coil on the side of the throttle body face? How do I adjust them?

Throttle cables push/pull the throttle plate open when you press the gas pedal...have someone pump the gas while you look, you'll see how it works. I suspect you are talking about the coil spring that returns the throttle plate to idle position...the cables don't require adjustment. I was just thinking that by repositioning the throttle body with the spacer, the cables might have gotten in a bind or something...
You never did say if the plate closes all the way or not?

LOL...I see the problem I think...just went out and looked at how mine ('95 LX) is.
The cables stops (where the outer part of the throttle cable mounts) bolt to a support on the intake...so if you space the TB out, it's putting it farther from the stops and making the cable pull the throttle open...there is adjusters on the cable stops, but I don't know if there's enough adjustment there to overcome the thickness of the spacer if it's more than 1/4" thick...you may have to move the support that holds the cable stops towards the TB or something until the cables have the proper slack to let the throttle plate close completely....

Look at this...I circled the cable stop in yellow, the bellcrank on the throttle body in green. If you move the throttle body farther from the stop, you're pulling the cable and opening the throttle plate.
If this is not the problem I think you have the wrong spacer for your motor or something and it's sucking air....

Ahhh so what i gotta do is loosen up the cable...giving it more slack so the throttle plate closes? the spacer is an inch thick and i'm sure it goes with my car b/c i got from somebody who has the same car...thanks alot by the way man for puttin up with my car-dumbness

Yeah it seems like that would be the problem, looking how mine is...seems like there should be some kind of relocating hardware for the cable stops with that spacer, on mine there's not enough adjustment on the cables to overcome a 1" change...
Did you get an instruction and parts sheet with that spacer? They must have a way to overcome this with the kit, I'd think...if you don't have it, try looking up the company that made it online and see if you can get that info...
PS that pic is of a Civic, so the setup is different from your car...it's just the only pic I could find that shows my point...looking at mine it has two throttle cables coming from the driver's side, then another coming from the cruise control servo on the passenger's side that has it's own bellcrank...very weird...gotta look at it closer later, doesn't make sense to me right away...
