wheel bearing spacer

94 explorer brakes went out, had to replace pad and rotor driver side. The bearing spacer broke and we cant get it at napa or the parts stores, do I really need this or can I substitute it with a metal washer? it maybe the needle thrust bearing. It is like a hard rubber. can be flexed but not bent. please help
