acetone in gas

A friend told me about it today, and I did some research, all I can find good stuff. There was a thread on this site that started back in 05 and somebody dug it up, In that thread the older silverados and any car with a carb showed great milage gains, I was wondering if anyone tried this on a newer vortec?

All of my learnings tells me its a big no no to do this, but has anyone?

According to the findings I have searched, Acetone does not do much for Fuel injected engines. If anything it could make it worse. I believe the thread you are referring to, has comments from people who have tried using the Acetone on the newer engines. you will see mixed results.

BAD...BAD,BAD,BAD!!!!!!!!!
Acetone (fingernail polish remover) will eat away the protective linings of the fuel lines and the coating on the injector coatings and cause nothing but problems.
If you don't believe me, pour some on the paint of your vehicle and watch what happens:runaround:

Mythbusters did an episode on this, that was re-aired over the weekend. The results of their chassis dyno tests indicate that their two vehicles (a 1980 Cutlass with 305, and some newer FI car) actually suffered in their fuel economy when acetone was used.

Yeah I know acetone and xylene is super harsh stuff, thats why I asked if anyone did it. I saw the mythbusters when they did the mpg but I must of missed the acetone part
