Do you have a check engine light? also pull up the carpet on the pass side and look for ecu codes. If you have a b16 youve probably done this before. If those are all negatory then pop the hood and check the solenoid by energizing it with 12v straight off the battery. Just make sure it clicks. Let us know how that works out.

what is your oil pressure like? on a side note.
VTEC only requires two things to work properly
1. Ample oil pressure
2. A switched 12v source and ground.

i have never done that before i am kinda new to the car scene mechanic wise but i will definately try it and ill let you know

Vtec also requires at least 25 (maybe 20) mph, and a minimum coolant temperature. So no vtec on a cold block.

OooOoo... I didnt' know about those... Oh.. wait.. yeah, I did.. those things only apply if you're using a Vtec ECU.
However, I should have mentioned those, since I doubt he's using a Standalone Vtec Controller and such.

also jsut check to make sure you have oil, if your too low on oil it wont engage.

that's why I suggested oil pressure

ya i know. but checking oil is the easiest thing to check first. unless you have an oil pressure gauge already.

I do, I do!!! It's nicely placed in the ashtray that never gets used. The guy that I helped to build the car I just bought back put it in there... insane oil pressure... around 80 PSI @ 6k rpm... holds 20 @ idle, and around 60 @ off-idle
And it wasn't even hard to put in... lets put it this way.. the low oil pressure light will never come on again :D

At the VTEC oil pressure test port on the B16 you should have around 8 psi at idle and at least 80 psi during higher RPMs. Ohm out your solenoid and make sure you have atleast a few ohms of resistance. Also you should check the oil pressure switch to see if its going closed when the engine revs up (provided you're using it). If you're using a third party controller then I would start there, in my experience with VTEC that has been the source of the problem most of the time. The other times that I found it to be Honda's fault was when the O2 sensor messed up and the computer wouldn't allow VTEC to come on. Good luck

check the green plug that plugs into the solenoid. mine came loose at the track once.

My solenoid ground came loose at the track, its the black wire screwed to metal coming out of the same plug but i dont imagine thats your problem or youd have fixed it.
