Transaxle fluid and filter

The manual for my 1998 GP 3.8 GT says the transmission fluid should be changed at 50,000 miles. My tranny has done 49,875 miles. It also says that if the vehicle is not used for the conditions shown in the manual, the fluid and filter do not require changing.

The dealer charges $149.95 for this. Should I have it flushed and filled or just a drain and filter change?

Actually it is 100K miles. 50K miles under sever duty such as police, taxi, etc. But 50K is a good point to do basic tranny service just to be safe. I would do a pan drop with ATF and screen filter only. A flush could be inviting problems. Just check out all of our older threads dealing with a flush. Some real horror stories.

I with Bob on the trans flush, bad idea. Just change the filter, and the fluid that drains from the pan. $149.95 is WAY too much for a trans service, you should be able to get it done for less than 1/2 that (Unless you live in Beverly Hills or somewhere like that).
