98 Transport - Codes and confusion !!!

Hey all - Shane here again....

Ok - soooo.... I took the van into the dealership because I have had the airbag light illuminated for about a year - as well as the ABS light (sometimes the ABS light will shut off for a little bit...)

Here were the codes;

C1232 - LR Speed Sensor open
C1233 - RF Speed Sensor open

B1058 - RH Airbag deployment commanded
B1030 - RH pretensioner resistance high (seat belt 2" retract activated)

P1380 - EBCM road sensor error (no info on this one at all!)
P1811 - erratic shift pressure control solendoid (explains my hard shifts!)
B1040 - LH Pretensioner resistance high (seat belt retractor again)

This is what the dealership told me was the descriptions of these codes. They all swear up and down that the van must have been in an accident. I have had the van for a few years and it was never in an accident and the ABS and Airbag lights were not illuminated for the first couple of years that I had the van.
I did hit railway tracks REALLY hard once - thought it might have bent a rim even....
I have replaced the front hubs (abs sensors) and drove for at least a year before I had the ABS issues..

Does anyone have any suggestions????

Thanks! - shane

According to the codes the ft sensors have an open circuit, either they are bad or the wiring is open they should be checked with an ohmeter and the harness checked also. The SIRS is another issue, it seems like there may have been a commanded deployment at one time, when a deployment is commanded the seat belt tensioners are also deployed, which is a one time operation. Either the airbag module is giving wrong info and is defective or something really did happen. 1811 is usually the press. control solenoid in the trans, common problem. Didn't the dealership explain any of this to you?

Thanks for the info - the dealership did not explain a whole lot. They said the pressure sensor is a 5 hour job.. Not sure if it is worth me doing it in the driveway or have them do it - thoughts?

As far as the abs sensors go - I will check them with the meter.. any other diagnostic steps I should take that you know of?

Thanks again,

Shane

Short of a road test with an abs function scanner to look at wheel speed inputs,no, sensors are about 1050-1180 ohms. PCS is not usually a dwy. job, it is located in the valve body inside the trans side cover.

Fair enough. thanks. I guess the dealership can do this one. As far as the ABS goes - I think I will live with it for a while...

Your vehicle does have seat belt pretensioners. They are located in the buckle on this vehicle, not the retractor like many others.
During a 1st stage deployment, (an impact felt through the frame or chassis of the vehicle) the SDM (sensing and diagnostic module) which is located under the passenger seat and senses the impacts deployed your seat belt pretensioners to pull you back into postion. The impact was not enough to deploy the airbags, but now you need to replace the buckels (both left and right) and the SDM to get the airbag system back to normal.
As long as the light is on, the system WILL NOT DEPLOY ANYTHIG

Thanks! I guess I know what I have to do!
