2001 brakes

a freind of mine has a problem with his brakes ,sometime the peddle will get real hard ,and when you get close to stopping the abs will kick in ,no abs lites or anything. hes replace all rotors and pads ,fluid changed .i told him sounds like the booster,

It very well could be the Booster, but not sure that would explain the ABS comming on. Sounds like the ABS sensors might be going bad.

hard pedal is the booster or vacuum line is leaking.or possibly a check valve in line with the booster put vacuum guage in line with the booster line and with long enough vac hose moniter the vac. while driving . because you say it does not happen continuosly.
