Last night was a terrible snafu for my car and I. I was driving home from practice in my LS. I took the same back road that i always take, full of turns and hills and what have you. It's faster than taking the 'direct route' down the Carlisle-pike (which of full of redlights).
The ride was going fine, everything normal. I came to the last turn of that particular road, a sharp bend. The turn is rated at 15mph. I hit the turn at 40- which is my usual speed for that turn and the wheels don't even chirp.
Last night though, I took the turn and hit a large branch in the center of the road. It straightened my wheels out and sent the car towards the outside of the turn. I hit the brakes and steered back to the center. The car started to slide (which is nothing that i haven't done before) so I countersteered and applied a little more throttle to pull out. I got the car straightened out and back into the center, but i had locked the brakes and redlined. The brakes unlocked and the car took off- immediate overcompensation. I wound up sliding again and hit a tree.
The damage: my driver side door is bent shut, the front fascia is hanging there, the tie rod feels bent, my rims are bent, my front quater panel is smashed beyond recognition and the side-view mirror is gone. Miraculously the car still runs, but it's leaking fluid. I'm perfectly fine, my curtain airbag deployed over a window that was down, so I only bit my cheek:shakehead

I'm so pissed- i've only had the car for 5 months and i loved it. Assuming I can get the internals repaired, this might the excuse i was looking for to get a kit put on her.

thats why you dont drive like an asshat on public roads. Public roads are not race tracks, they are not prepped like race tracks, and they have the very big possibility of random events occuring.

I hope you learned a hard lesson about driving like an ass, your lucky only you were involved.

Wow... So I am wondering... What makes you think you can actually take a turn rated at 15mph at 40mph in a Cobalt LS?... With a rating like that it sounds like it would be almost a 90 degree turn... Jayson is right here. Public roadways are not racetracks, nor should they be used as such. Keep those moves to closed course tracks only. You are very lucky nobody else was involved or this story could have ended a whole lot worse than it did man...

The "branch in the middle of the road" story is as old as the automobile..! Every teenager has has a similar phony story to excuse his or her screw ups... You didn't impress anyone here. Grow up and drive like it was your family you are about to kill.....
