Ive got a 97 escort 3door 1.8.....and im doin my intake and outlet.....so....is it just a roumer or does a straight thru pipe from the cat....right to the end improve performace? im not too sure....in theory it should as it increases the rate which air-flow goes through the engine....so im thinkin about gettin pipe from the cat, ditching the middle box and replacing the rear box with a performace backbox.... yes or no???

Well the less turns it makes the better the flow.

Yeah. That would work. They call it a cat-back conversion. That with a cold air iintake system would improve your performance and it would sound good, too.

Has to be a system designed for the particular vehicle. A straight through pipe will decrease power considerably. The system requires a given amount of backpressure to properly meter fuel.
