I have a 2000 Silverado. Is there a way to turn the headlights off when the truck is running? We had stopped to see a Christmas display last year and wanted to leave the truck running but couldn't because the headlight stay on. Is there a way to override this? thanks

Push the "Over ride" button 3 times to switch to manual control of the head lights. Button is located below the headlight switch

Yeah mine is an 02 and I have to hit it 4 times. I checked it this afternoon. It makes more sense to hit it 4 times because it returns the switch to its original position. Maybe that's why they changed it in 01?

Yeah well mine is an 03 and I have to turn the dial LOL. While I'm here I want to say I just put a Borla cat back and K&N filter on ,also Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks and wow what a difference in ride and MPG!!!

I guess Chevy can't make up their minds how they want you to turn the lights off, huh?

Hi, My 99' Sierra did not have the "press so many times to delete auto- headlight feature", so I found this site. Maybe this procedure will work on your model as well. www.lightsout.org (http://www.lightsout.org)

2001+ you had to push it 4 times. umm...... hey I got one of these trucks too. Guess what that doesn`t do it for my 2000 Silverado. I have to push on the emergency brake to get them off, like MT 2500 said. Now I see your truck is a z-71 .mine is not and the orignal poster did not specify which model he had either, maybe that is the difference we are seeing here.
Thanks for the link HC2000 I want to get rid of autoheadlights on my `95 Firechicken

My 2000 Z71 you have to apply the ebrake, then turn the ignition off, then back on.

Ok so I have searched everywhere to turn the lights off on my 99 1500 Silverado so all you have to do is push the emergency brake and holy shit they turned off all this time I tried the buttons but the e brake did the trick hope this helps and for you guys saying it can't be done to a 99 it is possible I have spent the last two years trying everything but I was usually driving and I have never used my e brake since this is the only automatic I have ever owned I always used the e brake on my other vehicles but seeing as I don't really have to now never used it but I sure will now thanks for the suggestions guys but you were wrong I had given up hope since everyone said it's not possible so I tried the 2000 since it was the closest to mine and I'll be damned the lights went out now I can sit and not have my lights on sorry if I'm rambling but I am excited (99+e brake)= no lights hope it works for you guys also
