Hello, I am looking for suggestions on a good tuner car. Money is the biggest issue, looking for a cheap priced car that will be reliable to tune up and race, any suggestions?

I have suggestions:

1)Wrong section...

2)Be more specific...how much are you willing to spend and what are you looking to get out of the car?

...looking for a cheap priced car that will be reliable to tune up and race...

That is a contradictory statement...cars that are cheap aren't reliable to tune (well, depending on how far you take it) and vice versa.

Cheap, reliable, fast.

Pick two.

Well me and some friends were looking at this earlier today, and def helps if you know some car people.

Turbo sc300 with the supra 2jz motor. We priced it out today, nothing super fancy, manual swap, lsd and tires were about it, about 7k for 500whp.

Going to be more if you dont know ppl obviously.

Get a Hayabusa... faster than anything out there. Cheaper than you think.

Yep, and as far as swaps go it is not all that hard of a swap. Bout as easy as swapping in a CAI. :icon16:

You must know some very hooked up people :grinyes: I think you need to hook up everyone on AF now haha. Do u think a 2jz would fit in my tC:lol:...

...

j/k

Back to the thread. Speed and reliability don't come cheap. If you want both, guess what? You got to pay for it.

The eclipse sounds like a good idea, a gsx or gst should be inexpensive enough with a very tuneable motor. Ask the DSM guys around here for more info. The Honda would probably be more expensive. Maybe get an older hatch and swap a b18 in there. But that might be pushing your budget.

I would think a halfway decent 2JZ-GTE motor alone would be about five thousand. They aren't exactly in cheap and easy supply like a B Series.

I second the dsm idea. I bought mine for 2900. You rebuild the motor for another 1000, add some bolt ons examples, exhaust, intake, larger turbo, chip it and you'll be around where you want your budget to be and have litlle badass car. Good speed, low price and an overabundance of parts. Just my 0.02.

I think my friends plan was to take the NA 2jz and turbo that.

you have to remember, it costs money to tune a car. So, if you go and buy a cheap car, and drop 6g under the hood to make it real fast and repair/paint it, you could have bought a car that cost 6g more.
I know that sometimes that doesn't work- but honestly, it's better if you can stick it out and buy the more expensive car. unless this is your first car, in which case you just need wheels!

I'd say, if you can spring for higher cost: Cobalt SS, Scion TC, newer Civics

if you need cheap-ass wheels: Civic hatch, early 90's Eclipses, 240sx, 95-96 Mustang GT, Talons

the mustang actually fits into your range, but it's expensive to tune. however, it is pretty fast stock, so what you lack in quantity, you make up for in quality (not many parts, but just one part makes the car pretty solid)
kay- i'm done here.

If you are looking for cheap speed better than the TC, Cobalt or Civic a SRT-4 is the best way to go. Fastest speed for the price for newer cars. Faster than each one you mentioned plus it has a lot of aftermarket, and is more reliable than a DSM.

In what time/space contiuium? I think to find a place where Mustangs are expensive to work on, we might need twin Flux Capacitors.

And even then, its so easy, a caveman could do it.

So easy a therapist could do it...Now that doesn't make sense. Why cuz therapists...are what SMART ? ? ?

Hahah i love it.

The mustang has lots of aftermarket potential. With plenty of parts available. I didn't even think about the srt4. The 03's are hovering just north of $10k now so thats relatively inexpensive.
