:banghead: I have a 01 rodeo 2wd with a 4 cyl (2.2L). Has around 140,000 miles on it. Never has given any problems....until now. Yesterday my wife was driving the car and the ABS light came on, she called me and I told her it was ok, the ABS wouldnt work but the vehicle will be fine. Well when she arrived home, she told me about a few other issues.
1. Idles at 2000 rpm instead of the norm of 1000.
2. Overheats at low speed.
3. Feels like im towing 10,000lbs.
4. Real sluggish.
Also noticed that the ABS light will only come on above 10mph. Tires are hot, icdicating that the brakes are constantly on. I have unplugged the ABS system to reset it, still same issues, same with the battery. Have pulled the fuse on the ABS system to disable the abs but have noticed that the vehicle still does the same thing. My only other guess is that the comp may be bad since all the problems have happened at the same time:2cents: . Any ideas?? All would be appreciated.

Found out the problem was the alternator.

Probably because its odd symptoms and not alot of ppl have 4cyl rodeos. There are alot of posts I dont respond to since its something I hadnt seen or worked on before.

btw, what led you to the alternator?

(it's a common symptom to have multiple dash lights for charging system problems, which you probably found out when you searched the site for previous threads, but not your list.)

Well to be honest, I didnt have a clue what the problem was. Found out by turning on the headlights and then both headlights blew. Checked voltage and found it to be 19.4VDC. Pulled alternator and had it checked, bad voltage regulator. had to replaced alternator $220 + $130 installation fee. (had a shop do the work) Autozone sells the alternator for $189. :( But hey, it works great now. Thanks.
