My 1997 Gmc Jimmy 4.3 is leaking quite alot of coolant. I replaced the water pump and it was still leaking so i did a pressure test. The result is quite a bit of coolant leaking out of the back of the motor i believe near the transmission. I can only see one freeze plugs and cannot make out where this leak could be happening. It is on the drivers side somewhere up near the top of the tranny bell housing. If anyone knows of what is up there that could be leaking or how I can see up there please help!! Not positive but I dont think it is the intake manifold. But how low is the lower gasket?
Thanks,
Kendall

Im starting to think it is the lower manifold gasket. Is there anyway of seeing the back of the motor where this is? I dont want to take this apart and it not be it. Is there anyway to be sure?
Thanks

My leak was off the back of the motor, it was the plastic intake manifold gasket, that little trick has probably sold a few Toyota's:angryfire

The best thing i have found is some stuff called "Seal Up". it will seal any coolant leak. I used it to fix a 3 inch crack in the water jacket on the side of my camaro after the water froze. It's a clear liquid with copper powder settled in the bottom. Warm your engine to full op temp with the radiater cap off and slowly add it to the radiator. My Jimmy has the same leak. gettin ready to do the same thing. My camaro has held a year now without re-adding. No damage to water pump or thermostat. Just make sure you flush it all out when finished.

Sealer does not work very good on a intake gssket.
If intake gasket is leaking replace it or you will be replacing the engine.

You can use a mirror to look back there.
Also if a heater hose or heater hose fitting back there have a look at it to.
