Cams in a mod motor? I don't really see a need for that! Maybe you can't find them cause theres not a need for them. Supercharge it if your looking for more power.

I heard that you will see the most gains from upping the compression, cams, and porting the heads on a N/A setup. A guy named Mike Tymensky has a spray-bored Cobra motor and he's running 9.50s with it. Heres some Mod-Motor sites:

You might be able to do it, but I don't think its necessary in a new mustang, especially a newer cobra. Remember there's 4 of them so it will cost more, and then there's the cost to install them unless your good with mod motors. Another thing to keep in mind is that newer cars are a lot tougher on emissions then older cars. Yes, we all love that lumpy idle that a cam gives, but it might not be wise on a newer car. Well, who knows, I'm not the greatest expert on mod motors.

No problem dude. I'm not sure what "Mod Motor" means. Good Luck with the install!

Mod motor=modular motor, Motors installed in mustangs starting in 96 with overhead cams. As opposed to a Windsor motors or pushrod motors, pre 95 motors. Its just the type of motor.

with your cam search for the 98 cobra----2002 catalog version is still available---was thumbing through it as I type---but a cam swap----I don't know bro----for the money you will spend---I don't think its a great buy. If you know how to do the work yourself----then I would agree its worth it-----but if you are having a shop do it----well the labor-----well---you get the picture. But the 2002 Ford racing catalog---has a good variety.

modular means that the motor is not free wheeling basically..if you break a cam chain or something like that then your valves are going to hit your pistons...or if you remove cams and do not get the timing chains back exactly you have a real good chance that valves will hit the pistons...clearance in these motors are so tight that everything needs to be exact...ford is also recommending that 5w20 motor oil be used in all mod motors:smoker2:

They are called Modular motors because.... When Ford decided to get rid of pushrod V-8's they wanted to make 1 block that used OHC that could be put into a bunch of different cars instead of spending R&D on a bunch of different blocks. They would just change the heads and intake to get different hp/torque ratings per engine. Think of modular homes and you see why they gave the motor that name.

Also when dealing with cams for SOHC and DOHC.
#1 they are a lot more expensive per cam.
#2 You need 2 or 4 depending. $$$$$
#3 Big lift cams do not work on OHC set-up like the do on a pushrod. In a pushrod after a certain lift depending on a shitload of things you get a Vaccum effect which will never be possible on a OHC
In conclusion cams will get you more hp/torque on a OHC motor. But it's not worth the cost unless u really just want N/A.
Example. Average OHC cost $300 x 4= $1200!!!! not counting install

I was just going to say that, but you beat me to it. I also agree with your post after this as well.
