Every 15k - 20k steering column gets rattle feel. Take it in and dealer does something but comes back in 15 to 20 K. Anybody found a permanent solution.

what model, engine, how many miles, when does it rattle (accelerating, slowing down, turning) any suspensions mods or aftermarket rims/tires? have you ever lubed the intermediate steering shaft?

The dealer should tell you what they did, if they dont just ask.

the search function is your friend (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=335234&highlight=borgeson)

But there is no permanent solution I am aware of. I tried a Borgeson, and it's making the same noises a year later...

After Feb 2007 the dealer will replace the shaft with a new unit, that is supposed to fix this problem permanatly. This is a free fix if the truck is still under warranty. All GM products, using this chassis has this problem from 2003 up to at leat 2005 and probably 06.

The previous fix was to just regrease the shaft or exercise it, by moving it in and out 5 or 6 times to redistribute the grease.

Four of us, where I work have trucks ranging from 03 to 05 and all of us have had this problem. One guys has been in 2 times for the old fix, but just this week he got the new shaft before his warranty ran out in 2000 miles. I had mine replace 2 weeks ago.

If you are out of warranty, it appears to be a rather easy fix you can do on your own. I looked up the most recent tech bulletin (FeB 2007) for this problem and it listed the part number and the procedure to fix it.

So far GM hasn't made it a recall.

Hello all new here to these boards...I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado and have the steering problem also....There is no fix and if you ask Chevy customer service there is not a problem....But since I have had 4 steering shafts and 1 steering box replace along with the shaft lubed and tightened both on different services.....Where am I going with this.....Good news to all of you I would call Chevy customer service and complain cause I did and they gave me an extended warranty....they added 2 years or 24 months.....Good luck to you all who have this problem.....Please respond with your experiences
