1999 escort trans replacement

my daughter has a 1999 escort se with the spi2000 engine. running it with a broken transmission cooler line caused 3rd gear to stop working. engine just revs at the shift point and drops to second when accelerator is released. can drive at 50 mph or so. if auto gear shift is moved to "d" (not overdrive)
engine just revs and wont engage . can get a trans for cheap (about 275.00)
anything unique to this model when changing the trans?

It's textbook except for 2 things. The engine is supported by the transmission mounts and must be held from above when taking out the transmission. The other thing is the taking out of the drive axles. It takes quite a bit of pressure with a pry bar to get them out.
