I have a 97 towncar and I had a problem with my ABS pump. When I drive it and it gets to 13MPH the ABS pump did not do the self test and the light came on. This has happened before where it wont work 1 time I drive and then it will be fine for a year......Anyone have any ideas

Mine started like that.... It progressively got worse and now it's dead.
I've had the light on for over a year, with no ABS. I checked the obvious causes, sensors & connectors and still, no ABS.
Since I don't drive the Town Car too much, weekends and road trips mostly, I don't want to spend the large bucks associated with dealer diagnosis just yet.
I may just replace all the sensors even though the test fine, but I really don't use the brakes much :) The amber ABS lamp is a bit annoying.

Hey Steve, How long was it from when it first started doing it to when it died? Thanks

I do notice that when it does it its only after I drive it a lil bit of a distance (10 miles or more) and then it sits a short time and then I drive it again, was this the same case with your car and do you know how much it would cost for a dealer to hook it up to there computer and tell me what the problem might be? Thank you for your help.

I've heard they charge $100 connection fee, and then if you allow them to fix the problem, they apply the connection fee to the repair job instead.
Mine (the abs lamp) was either on of off at 13mph for each ignition cycle.
It progressively became more on than off, and now it's always on (at 13 mph).
This took place over the span of about a year, something like 5/6k miles; I don't drive the Town Car daily.
