Firefox Bookmarks ?

I had to reformat my hard drive about a month ago, after I had started using firefox; and I ran into a problem saving my bookmarks. When I used IE, I just saved my favorites into a folder and put it on my 2nd hard drive as storage/backup. So when I started using firefox, I just imported the favorites from IE. But when I went to save my bookmarks, in Firefox, before I reformatted, I could only "export" them as a single html page that was just links. I ended up having to import the saved favorites for IE (that were on my 2nd hard drive) into firefox, and then going through that exported list and figure out what I was missing.
So my question is... is there a plug-in/extension/add-on that will save the bookmarks as physical files to my computer, so I could keep it as a backup & maybe even be able to add them to use in IE? All I could find were add-ons to send my bookmarks to some online servers, but I'd be much easier to just have them on my computer. It will be a pain if I have to save the url, paste it in the IE address bar, and then bookmark it in there too; just to to back everything up.

the only way i know of to save bookmarks in firefox
1. click bookmarks then orginize bookmarks.
2. click file (top right) then export
then just pick where you want to save the file and name it what you want and your good to go

That what I did before, but it never worked. Guess I'll just try it again the next time I have to reformat. Thanks for the help.

If you are more comfortable dealing with the physical files rather than the IE import/export utility: All of your IE shortcuts are saved in a folder on your hard drive. The default path is C:\documents and settings\%username%\favorites. This is where the physical files are located (actually, they are just URL links). Add or delete a link in this folder and it will appear or disappear from your favorites in IE. Copy the whole folder to a memory stick and restore it after you reformat. Do the same for C:\documents and settings\%username%\cookies.
Then just let Firefox import the IE favorites when you install Firefox - it should prompt you with "Do you want to import favorites from IE?".

How didn't it work? After you re-installed Firfox did you go to Organize Bookmarks and then go to Import. Select "From File" and then point to the file you saved.

Yeah, I did that and it didn't work; none of the bookmarks loaded for me. I tried it again and it put up all my bookmarks as double (double of all the folders and links), so it worked. I don't know why it wouldn't have worked the first time. My mouse is royally messed up, so maybe when I clicked on it, it didn't register the click (this happens to me often, but that's a whole other problem).

It is normal for it to double the bookmarks. I wish they'd fix that. Just organize them and delete the double.
