New engine in car - does it reduce resale value?

We will be selling our 2007 Hyundai Accent, which has approximately 3,000 miles on it.

The car had a problem -- it came with a faulty engine. (The problem manifest itself through very low milage, about 17mpg on average, a rough start, and a check engine light that was often on.) Part of the engine was just replaced -- the short block. Several months ago, the head gasket was replaced.

The repairs were done under warranty by the dealer, with, I presume, new parts.

Assuming that our car's engine problems are now completely solved, I was wondering if anyone knows if having a new engine put into a 10 month old car would affect the car's resale value.

well the fact the engine has been replace shouldn't make any difference in the value of the car. Just remember that you are trying to sell a car that has one of the worst depreciation on the market. So don't get the idea your going to come out of the deal without losing a lot

Yeah the price won't change unless the title is Rebuilt then you might have a problem, if not just don't mention it. We buy and sell cars and if you want my opinion take it to an auction, preferably a dealer one if you have someone that has a dealership, and you should be able to get what you want.

I like to answer your question with a question, if you were a buyer that wanted complete history along with service records before considering purchase, how comfortable would you be buying a near new car thats been in the shop already with major problems, there is a lemon in every batch and if I was a buyer my thoughts would be this could be just the tip of the iceberg
Yes I think it will affect the re - sale value, but then again there is a very high percentage of buyers that have not got a clue how to buy a car and past history wont come into play, if your selling private " and being asked " be vague, simply say some warranty work has been performed and leave it at that.

if your selling private " and being asked " be vague, simply say some warranty work has been performed and leave it at that.

So what should you say then to the prospective buyer if they press on by asking "What sort of warranty work was done on the vehicle?"Better to be prepared with an answer in advance should the situation arise.

Whatever warranty or recall work performed records can be obtained from any Hyundai dealer by suppling the vin #, if the buyer insists give full disclosure but at same time not make it an issue with a long explanation how this happend along with all the inconvience, keep the answer short like its no big deal, thats what I mean by being vague.
Warranty work and recalls seller dont have to disclose unless being asked and its highly unlikely these questions will be asked, but its highly likely the buyer will ask about accident , why you selling along with any present problems with vehicle and the answer is no. however if buyer asks what work has been performed you must disclose.
