Tranny questions on a 95

Hi, im back again. As some of you may know I have been asking questions about turbo DSM's because I have been in the market for one lately.

I have a found a 95 Talon TSi that the guy will trade even up for my Ford Ranger so I think I am going to take the deal. It has 2 main problems.

First the timing belt needs changed (its ticking he says but its not broken and the motor runs, but he hasent drove it since it started that, whole car has 60000 miles on her ^^)

The second problem is my biggest. The car is a automatic and the tranny is in need of repair he says. He tells me it wont go into any gear but bit reverse? How hard would this be to fix or am I looking at a replacement tranny. He says he knows a guy with a new tranny for it but he wants $800 for it. Since its turbo does the tranny have to come off another turbo 2g? Any chance I can fix this tranny somehow or get a tranny out of a first gen?

Other then that the car seems sound. Please let me know what you guys think and thanks!

~Mike

You are either going to have to get a new tranny or have it fixed. You can only get a tranny from another 2g turbo fwd. A 1g tranny may fit since some of them came with the 7-bolt motor. The ticking is probably just lifter tick and has nothing to do with the timing belt. But change it as soon as you get the car just to make sure the belt doesn't break.

Im curious to see this car if he will trade it for a Ranger.

Tranny definitely has to come from a 2g, the 2g puts 3 of the motor mounts on the tranny, while the 1g only had one (3 on the block). I would think you could find 2g FWD auto trannies for less than 800, but I'm obviously not sure. If the rpice is right a simple tranny replacement could be worth the effort.
