Any experience out there on adjusting valve shims? I am told dealers will only sell full shim kits. Has anyone had shims surface ground? Can it be done without shim pliers. Any tricks appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrew.

I've heard of ppl just turning the shim over giving a flat surface on top of the valve. They develop a divit over time where it sits on the valve stem.

Yes I have heard that but I wonder why the valves would not 'recess' over time and close up the clearance. I am mostly worried about that aspect. There is so little information on this topic that maybe it is not an issue with this engine.
