August 1993 Geo Metro, Starting problems

I have a 1993 non fuel injected Geo Metro with only 76000 miles. We've had sporadic problems with starting the car. Once it's started it runs fine. This has been happening with engine hot or cold. I've changed the fuel filter by the gas tank, added gas treatment. But can't figure why this is happening. I have no problem cranking the car over, Could it be no spark or bad points? I could use some help.. Thanks.

I had a similar problem on my '94 - it ws the positive battery cable, where it connects to the battery. The wiring had corroded enough that it was not making consistent contact with the clamp that attaches to the post. I re-spliced it and put on a new clamp and it works like a charm!

Can you give some more details about what happens when you try to start? What do you here? What kinds of things have you checked when it doesn't start? Once you have it running, if you make a short stop, does it start easily, or is it the same thing all over again?
