I just purchased an 05 gt. wondering how an aftermarket stereo would fit in the stock place.

I'm guessing you have the double-high stereo? If so, pretty much any aftermarket one will fit in its place (din size) and then you'd just need a dash kit to fill up the other space (basically it's a cubby to take half the height). If you want to look at how the stocker is in there it's really easy to get to. Just open the ashtray and get your fingers up under the trim piece. Just pull on it and it will start to come off (just held on by clips). Once it's away, disconnect the electrical connectors on the back of the panel and you can see how the stereo is in there (just held by screws).
