help?

wll i have a 95 monte carlo with the 3.1 and im having problems with getting it started im sure its the key with the chip in it thats doing it but how do you fix it? and i know your suppose to like splice a resistor in to it but when i try to get a measurement on my key for the resistance it wont read anything any help would be appreciated and also i tried to connect the post on the started and it would start up and then just die

Welcome to AF. Is the security lite staying on when this happens? Does it crank over but not fire, short on info here.

my 97 did that too. I was on my way up state when it first happened. I only had to get a new key and clean off the connectors inside the ignition. the key shouldnt be more than around 50-60 dollars
