so recently after being so flustered about this damn thing, i cut off the cat. and just ran a stright pipe to my mufflers, clamped it, then welded it to ensure no leaks...still really loud. but both mufflers are full of holes and busted seams...its a single exhaust, but after where the cat should be, theres a y pipe, then two mufflers coming off the back.
Its a 3.1L V6 Vin T. Just curious as to what mufflers i can put on to make it sound nice, i'd like it quiet, so i can drive around the neighborhood at night and not wake anyone up, but i'd also like it to have a good sound to it, not so if i was to open it up and fly down the road, it would sound great...Im debating on flowmaster and magnaflow, or maybe going with OEM, but i have no ideas where to even start. any help would be great!

I dont think you can have both quiet and sounding good . :grinno:
.... without a Cat its going to be loud.
Either of the two you mentioned are good sounding mufflers. I prefer the FLomaster.
Thier are hundreds of different mufflers out there,
it realy boils down to how much money you have to spend.
Both of my ga's have flomaster 80 series,
single in dual out, and they are semi quiet under 1200 rpm.
Any more and they start to get loud(er) :grinyes:

ok then, so what if i want to just go for quiet, something so i can drive home at night, and not wake up half the neighborhood...I guess i'd rather it be quiet then loud, granted at higher RPMs it will growl, i do have an intake on there, so it already has a bit of roar at WOT :grinyes:
I figure i'd rather go for quiet, so its not like this loud thing coming down the road, considering the type of car and what people see and hear, i'd rather go for quiet.
Also the stock mufflers came with a tip, its single outlet but its like an elongated circle with a bar in the middle, those i painted to match the car. i cant seem to find a pic, but im sure you know what i mean, if not, i'll snap a couple of pictures.
anothing thing i was also wondering about was the exhaust tips, i do have dual mufflers. and the car is teal (GM-bright aqua) so something that will go well with it would be great

I have a 92 Cutlass convertable and had the muflers rust out on me. If you look at the mufflers you will see that they are 2 different sizes, if you price them from Walker you will see they are over $100 apeice. I went to a custom exhaust shop and had them install new turboflow mufflers. I still have the cataclysmic converter but it has a nice rumble to it now but has a drone to it cruising on the highway, have to turn up the radio. Since you removed the converter it will be louder. My car is also the teal blue so I had oval stainless steel exhaust tips put on, they look cool sticking out of the notches in the rear bumper.

i ended up just wrapping them both in muffler bandage, some nasty stuff, but it made it very quiet, even while crusing or accelerating, but wot was kind of nice. since then i've already blown a few spots on there. i guess its just about time for some new ones, haha
