Swap Idea

Now before anyone starts to tell me it cant be done, This is JUST a thought, but Iv been thinking about it ALOT.
Ok heres what I have in mind.
Eclipse 4G63 Motor with 5 speed tranny
Inside of a 1989 Honda Civic DX sedan.
Now before everyone goes off and spams the crap out of this thread, this is why I thought it might fit. You can install H22 motors into Civics, YES you would TAKE ALL the engine bay up, but the 4G63 shorta looks the same size as an H22.
Also Iv found a few 88-89 CRX's at the local junk yard, I was thinking about a dash swap, what all would I need to do that?

It's probably been done before. I know it's been done in a few '92-'95 civics before. But IMO, it's a lot more trouble than it's worth. If you do the fwd swap, it'd be pointless because of all the $ you'd be putting in the car when you could just build a Honda/Acura engine and have more power for the same price (or cheaper). If you did the awd swap, you'd basically have to do it for a show only car. Unless you can find a drag strip that just doesn't care, they would never pass the car in inspection. You're hacking up the back end of the car for the rear axle, the firewall and floor, and there is no publicly available kit to do the swap. I'm not trying to bash your idea, this is just my honest opinion.

Agree w/ spoon there.. if you wanna do AWD, get a civic wagon :D
the Dash swap, afaik, is completely bolt-in.. I plan on swapping a '88 CRX dash into my Sedan.

well, anything can be done with the right amount of time and money. but there comes a point where the time and money spent is more than if you just swapped a differant motor into it. not to mention you could take that money saved and build the motor a bit and come out with more power at the end of it all. but if your doing it just to be "differant" then go for it. and GL

I never knew anyone that did this before, I was just thinking about it. The reason I want to do the crx swap is because I want a stock tach and the other crx features that a DX dosn't have.

yeah, I'm actually doing the CRX dash swap soon after I get my car back, so I'll let you know how that goes... the only reason I really wanna do it is b/c the CRX is driver-oriented in the console and dash, so like, the console is more turned toward the driver... although, if you don't wanna change the whole dash out, I'm pretty sure you can just change the console part too, to get the driver-oriented console, and leave the DX dash, but use an LX cluster.
If you wanna do that, I might have an '88 LX cluster (good if you're running '88 or '89) that I could let go pretty cheap.
