You guys are going to want to hang me but just here me out. You might rememeber a while back that i had a cluster light probelm, anyway i took the easy way out and just rigged a neon light directly where the dimmer switch should have been so i could see my cluster. My lights were not working in the interior but outside it was all dandy.
Anywho, my charging system light is coming on. I got my Alt and my Bat tested and they were both good. So then I replaced my Alternator belt, and that light still keeps coming on. Please help! Very frustrated.
PS, it will definetly come on whenever i shift under 3k revs wether its up or downshift, underdriving problem? I do not have and altered pullys.

You need to check your voltages at idle and around 3k. It could just be a bad connection on one of the wires.

Clean and tighten all of your battery cables and make sure the connection at the alternator is tight.

My battery terminals are good, and the connection at the alternator is also good. I did notice that when my battery light (charging system) is on my rear window defroster would not come on. Any ideas?

Battery?
Yeah the battery symbol that comes on the dash board to let you know the their is something wrong with the charging system.

How was the battery tested? With a multi-meter to get the exact voltage or one of those heat-resistance testors that just tells you if it's good or bad?

Do they come all the time? Or just when you turn on the neon lights? You said it comes on under 3k, is this all the time under 3k?
My advice would be to check the wiring to the neon lights. Since that was the last thing you did before the electrical problem.
The other thing I could think of is perhaps the electrical system is drawing to much of a load in the system. (Which is why I said check the neon wiring)
Well if the light comes on at under 3k all the time, it means that the alternator isn't making enough power to charge the system, or it's being drained to something (IE short). And how did you test the alternator? vatozone?

LMAO, vatozone? Advance discount auto parts used the battery tester on a cart to test the BAT and ALT, they both turned out good. I used a multi meter and i got 13V at the battery. The neon bar in the dash is connected to its own transformer which i connected to where the dimmer switch should be. I have the dimmer wires connected to transformer so when i turn the lights on the neon automatically comes on. Its only a 6" bar.

LMAO. Here I am thinking the whole time you put some big old neon lights on the bottom of your car and thinking that could be the problem.
Yeah reading owns me.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery with the car running and seeing if the alternator can support it at idle (Which it should be able to) I know you said you had it tested, but it makes me kinda leary.
Have you shot the connection from the BAT to the alternator? If not check the wiring that runs between those two next.

Yeah it is really bright, kinda looks like a damn bug zapper on wheels, lol. The alternator was good when i disconnected the battery, strangely enough,,,i haven't run my car under 3k revs this weekend and the damn light hasn't come on.:banghead: I'm gonna drive under 3k and see what happens on the way home.
