the wires coming out of the speed sensors on my front wheels just go to a connector behind the rotor but there are no wires leading out of the connector. one just has a green plug in the connector and the other is open with no plug. is this normal? are these for a option my car dosent have or is somthing missing? 2004 grand am 3.4l v6 thanks for any help.:screwy:

Welcome to AF hanksta.

Sounds like you have a problem.....

Thier should be two wires going to each WSS behind the Hub.
These are known to break, get ripped off or just come unpluged on thier own.

Not exact on the 04 wire colors but thier should be a wire up in there somewhere!
May even need to get a new wire harness and have it spliced into the old broke ones.

good luck!

this car is not equipped with abs or traction control. is there any reason for the speed sensor to be hooked to anything?

If you write down your VIN and bring it to a GM dealer, they will be able to run it through their computer. Ask them for a print out of your vehicle build info.. This will have all of the available options that are on your specific car.

Even so, you still need the wheel speed sensors or they wouldnt be on the car.... and though it was an option,
I have not seen any 03-05's that did not have ABS or traction control, and I have seen 100's!

No dealer required! :cwm27:

Year to Year Changes

2000 Pontiac Grand Am: An available Getrag 5-speed manual transmission was the big change for 2000, making the automatic unit an option for 4-cylinder models. Grand Ams also added standard rear child-seat anchors. When installed in GTs, the V6 engine made 175 horsepower rather than the usual 170.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am: Revised sound systems for 2001 included an 8-speaker Monsoon unit with CD/cassette and 7-band equalizer. Lower anchors for rear child seats were installed, and wheels restyled. The midrange SE2 version was dropped.

2002 Pontiac Grand Am: SE and SE1 models traded a 150-hp 2.4-liter 4 cyl for a 140-hp 2.2 liter engine in 2002.

2003 Pontiac Grand Am: Antilock brakes moved to the options list on the least expensive model. Grand Am sedans lost their lower-body plastic cladding. SE2 sedan is new for '03 and upgrades SE/SE1 features with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, a six-way power driver seat, cruise control, and 16-inch wheels. Added as a midyear option for GT1s was a Solid Value Appearance package with 30th-anniversary badges and special trim.

2004 Pontiac Grand Am: The only change in '04 for the Grand Am was the addition of an MP3 option upgrade available for all models except the SE.

2005 Pontiac Grand Am: Retail sales of the sedan body style cease during 2005 as Pontiac begins to phase-in Grand Am's replacement, a new car called the G6.

yes but your se is a 99, abs and traction control were standard on all grand am's. in 04 abs was a option on the se and se1 and traction control was not avaliable unless you got the se2 or gt.

Yeah hanksta, you've said that four times now

You asked , what the wires/plug behind the rotor was for,
I told you.

I am fully aware of the options and that from 03-05 thier were a small few that were "special ordered" without ABS and Trac control.

...most were not even sold in the USA.

btw Other things use wheel speed too.

Good Luck
