2003 Ranger Catalytic Converter

The Catalytic converter just went out on my 2003 Ranger 3.0 V6 (flexfuel). The mechanic told me it would be about $1700 for the new cat. system and o2 sensors. Does this sound correct for an OEM part? Has anyone had any experience with this? Any insight on this would be helpful. Thank you.

Just has to meet California emissions standards.
