Does anyone know the proper procedures for replacing the air bag clock spring on an 04 silverado? The dealer whats over $650 to do the job. I have found the parts for less than $100 but I am not exactley sure how to remove the air bag. Any help would be great.

Something like this would be better replaced by a "trained" professional"

Air bags are VERY delicate. Even if you remove power to them they can still go off with static electricity.

I understand how delicate they are, but that was not my question.

Point being, with how delicate they are, it needs to be done right... is $500 (improper install) worth risking your life over.

Remove the instrument cluster surround by pulling it out carefully
Remove the lower dash panel
Remove the airbag by pushing a small screwdriver into the holes on the side of the airbag. This releases the clips. DO this after the battery has been disconnected at least 15 minutes.
Remove the plastic from the steering column. This was tricky and I don't remember how it was on there.
Unscrew the steering wheel.
shake the wheel while pulling and hopefuly it will pull off.
Remove the c clip that holds the clockspring to the column. let the spring dangle. put the new spring in its place and replace each connection 1 at a time so you can route the wires the same way.
Put everything back the way it cam apart.
Your done!
