Does anyone know if there is a way for owners to program a new SKIM module without specialized tools / computers?
I don't fancy spending $100 for "one hour install and programming" at the dealership when one screw holds the thing in there.
Still, if it requires a DRB III to program it, I guess I'll have to spend the $100.
So, is there a key / lock / button combination (like for new remotes) or am I just going to give the dealership their "Chrysler Tax?"
Thanks in advance.
Mark
PS - the original problem was intermittent stalling at startup. Have already done new keys, re-soldered Instrument Cluster Board, replaced Ignition Switch, checked all wiring connections. Have read about faulty antenna in SKIM, need to try replacing this.

What leads you to believe it is the SKIM? Also how did you program the new keys? What does the Alarm Set light do when you are starting the car if anything? Has it stalled coming up to a stop sign also?

We bought car used 6-8 months ago.
Recently, car intermittently stalls about two seconds after starting. Accompanied by VTSS light on in upper dash display, but no other display / instrument problems. Banging on dash works sometimes (or seems to). VTSS light comes on occasionally in normal driving but car has NEVER stalled once properly under way (or at a stop sign). Sometimes, car would stall after starting 5 or 6 times and then enter complete shut down mode. Wait, come back later, and it works just fine.
From reading comments on here regarding similar problems (and conversation with dealer) I agreed to buy a new gray key from dealer. They programmed it, but problem was still intermittent with new key as well. They next wanted to replace SKIM (and then they wanted to move onto BCM) but I wanted to do some more checking since they weren't exactly impressive on another issue.
I replaced ignition switch. Still intermittent problems. I removed Instrument Cluster Board and (a friend) resoldered the power connections, and visually checked it. I visually checked wiring connectors to BCM and PCM but they looked nice and clean.
"Mopar2" (?) posted similar problem resolved with new keys and new SKIM. At this point a bad antenna connection on current SKIM is certainly possible and for $100 to $200 I figure it is worth a try to recover a vehicle that my wife will absolutely NOT drive in its current unreliable state.
I have not tackled ASD relay, CAM position sensor, or the like as the VTSS light and the only stalling at startup symptoms really seem to point to an immobilizer system problem. At this point I sure HOPE it is the SKIM as I do NOT fancy the next step (BCM) that the dealer wants to take.
I appreciate your earlier reply. Any further input based on all this detail?

The info. I have, indicates with the light and all, you are on the right track. Dealer will have to program it for you. With only the SKIM being replaced, if they do it right, the new SKIM gets the key info. downloaded from the PCM. Still cheaper than a new car.
