Tie rod problem

Hello everyone,
Here is my problem. I just replaced my left tie rod assembly and went for a drive. The tie rod end started to rub against the inside of the rim and made a loud rubbing noise. I came home and pulled both wheels off and compared the number of threads where the tie rod end bolts upward into the hub area, and it looked similar on both sides. I'm thinking when I was pounding on my pickle fork I might have made the part that connects to the strut move down just a bit. I'm curious if anybody has any ideas.
Thanks,
Jeff

Is the new tie rod assembly the same dimensions as the old one? Are you sure that is the correct part for the vehicle, or could it be "one that fits"?
Could it be installed upside down? You may want an alignment done on the assembly as well as that could be out, infact it should be done just to be safe.
