ABS and TRAC OFF light??

I have an '01 grand prix GT that recently the ABS and trac off lights come on intermittently. At low speed stops(especially in parking lots)the car acts like the ABS is activating. The car will pulsate the pedal and it sounds like there is a metal to metal grinding sound. Most of the time the car drives and brakes fine with no noise, no lights and no pulsating. The pads and rotors on all 4 corners look fine. I checked the sensors at the front hubs and both are reading 1k ohms. I do not know if this is related to the brake problem but the car also has a tcc solenoid that gets stuck on on occasion. The trans problem has been there for about 2 months before the brake problem so I don't think they are related. TIA for any help.

Have the car scanned with an ABS capable scanner. This will tell you what the problem is. It sounds like you have a sensor going bad. Even though the resistance is the same the computer can tell you more than just hit or miss. I will cost a few bucks but will save a lot of trial and error.

I thought it may be one of the sensors going bad. I have a friend that can scan it for me on the other side of town. I tried to price the sensors at the local stores with no luck. Is the sensor part of the hub because the hub assembly was about $250.00? Seems kinda high for just a hub bearing assembly.

The senser/hub is one unit and must be replaced as such. Make sure you purchase a good quality replacement, not one from China. Had to replace my right front hub/senser a few years back and had the dealer perform the work and it cost me 400.00 bucks. Next time it happens I have a friend that can help me do the work for the price of the unit. Dealer won't touch it again.
Good luck.

Try gmpartsdirect.com or rockauto.com. You should be able to save yourself some money on the parts anyway. I tried to replace the left front on mine and couldn't get it out. Had a mechanic change it for me. This is a DIY job but mine was so corroded that it wouldn't come out. If you plan to drive it a lot stick with the OEM or Name brand parts.
