...and another thing. after i did this: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=725265, i got the whole thing running fine, but it sways all over the road like it's got no shocks, but they're only a year or so old from autozone. i got sway bar bushings from NAPA (i'm never going back to autozone) but the bolt is much longer than the oem. it looks like it would hit the tie rod end during a bump on a turn. if i put them in the other way, i'd be worried about ground clearance. anyone know if it's safe to use the new ones or should i get GM replacement?
more importantly, is that the right fix?

I did sway links on a truck and they were too long. I trimmed them with a sawzass and they worked great. I saw in your other post that you had all of the steering linkage down. Did you put it all back together tightly? Some say that the idler arm really affects steering. That and Blazer steering is well known to just plain suck.

yeah, thanks. it does suck, but i didn't remember it being that bad. it's my son's car, so i don't drive it that much. i ended up just putting them on anyway. i jacked up the car from the frame so the suspension was all the way down, and it looked like it wouldn't actually hit the tie rod end.
i did make sure everything was tight under there. checked it again today. it's way better with the new bushings. still a little screeching tires around a sharp turn, but that could be tires. it's much tighter, so i'm ok with it. it was just so sloppy it felt like a good stiff wind on the highway would knock it over. didn't want him driving it like that.

Hey NINFan
I had that same Sloppy Ass Steering feel in my truck last year, turned out to be a worn out POS Steering box. $200 dollars and 90 minutes later, the truck steers like a new Corvette.....
