How to ID my engine

Well i was wondering if anyone can help me to figure out which engine my tracker has. Its a 1996, its a 1.6L 16 valve, has a distributer, and the crank sensor is at the front of the block. As far as i can tell from what i have read there were several different engines in this year, some with coil on plug ignitions, some with the crank sensor moved to the back of the block. So i need to know wich one it is. What number in the VIN will tell me? And where can i go to find out what number means what? Im pretty sure that its a G16... but what variation of that is it? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

this might help with the vin

however you should really get the ID # off the block itself just incase anyone has swapped the engine. once you get that you should be able to call the dealer (either Chevy or Suzuki) and find out what model engine you have.
hope this helps :)
