Hi all, I need to back date a Minicraft 1931 Model A to a 1928, can anybody tell me what I need to do for this? How different is a 28 to a 31 anyways? They look quite similar to me.

Thanks,

Mike

Ask and I will tell you:grinyes: I have restored 6 model "A" and Im in the middle of building two more. I have built a 1929 standard coupe, 1931 delux roadster, 1928 standard roadster, 1929 roadster pickup, 1931 sports coupe, 1931 roadster pickup. The ford model "A" was made from 1928-1931. There was two body styles for the four years. 1928-1929 visualy look the same and 1930-1931 visualy look the same. The two groups look very close but they have very different body lines that are very noticable. The main difference is in the cowl/gas tank area. Fenders have different lines and a little different shape. The belt line that goes along the body as well as the grill are different but all this is unnoticable to the untrained eye. There is also a size difference in the wheels.

My Great Grandfather bought one new in 1928 and it is still in the family (belongs to my mother) I helped disassemble it about 15+ years ago and have many pictures of it. Unfortunatley it sits in storage due to a divorce so wanted to give Mom a model of it since the restoration is sitting at a stand still and figured 1/16 scale would be large enough for her to see and makes a nice display piece for her. If you could help me out and tell me what I should fix on the 31 to look like the 28 it would help me out immensly. I'm pretty sure she would not notice the small details though. Thanks for your input so far. Ours is a 1928 Tudor, how close is the Minicraft kit to that?

If its not that big of a deal how correct it is then I wouldnt worry about it and just build it. Most people dont realy get see these cars and cant tell the diff. They make a 1928 2 door in 1/25 1/24 scale in resin to use with the AMT 1928 roadster kit. Its like I said. The grills are diff, The cowl and gas tank are the biggest diff. On the 28-29 the cowl and tank are narrower than the the body where the doors start. On the 30-31 they are flush with the body. The wheels and fenders are realy not that noticable in a model. There is also a line where the cowl and gas tank meet thats diff in the two pairs. If I could figure out how to put up pics on here I could show you better.
