92 Accord Ignition lock cyl removal

Hey guys, I'm going to be replacing the ignition lock cylinder in my sis-inlaws 92 accord. I haven't really been able to find any specific info on how this is done and most of my experience is with domestics so I'm kind of lost. I have searched for info but haven't found anything totally clear.

I have been told that I have to pull the wheel and go in through the column to get it out. This scares me a little since the car has an airbag and I'm not to sure how to disable it. Is there a way to replace the switch without pulling the wheel? We have the key and it still turns, it just hangs up sometimes and she wants it replaced before winter.

Thanks in advance for any help provided, you guys haven't failed me yet!

You can replace the lock cylinder without pulling the steering wheel & airbag.

Here is a picture...it's worth 1000 words

Yeah man, on that setup you don't have to pull the steering wheel or mess with the airbags. You do have to remove the upper and lower covers on the column and preferably the knee panel underneath the column. Are you replacing the lock cylinder because someone tryed to jimmy the lock? Or because the ignition switch is going out? The lock cylinder does not have to be removed in order to replace the electrical part of the ignition switch.
Just for knowledge, on top of the steering column there are two "Brake-Away" bolts that were installed at the factory, with the heads designed to break off during installation. At the dealer we always used a tap and hammer to turn the bolts loose and then installed new ones once we were done, on some Accords you can get it done without fooling with the bolts at all. The switch is held on by two tiny screws on the back of the lock cylinder. Let me know if you need more info or whatever
