I think the recessed headlight conversion for the Greddy RX-7 is about done. Just some trimming here and there. The car itself is not done yet (still waiting on decals!!! ).

In-progress pics showing the scratchbuilt headlight module:

This was the original concept / mock-up design. I used styrene sheet and tube as materials. Cut off the headlight cover and used it as the base for all measurements.

After all final pieces manufactured and puttied up. Just waiting for paint.

Some accidents happened along the way forcing me to strip off paint from the hood. Oh well, the hazard of working on a painted model (as FOTW had mentioned).

Really glad the hood came as a separate piece from the rest of the body. It really made the mod much easier (more room to work with).

I scratchbuilt the rear-diffuser too.

Comments are welcomed... :) :)

You did a great job man!~ I am falling in love with RX7 FD.
Just a question, why the bluetacks still on the rear spoiler?

Well, I had the spoiler glued down using krystal clear before. It snapped off due to lots of handling during the whole headlight conversion process. Thank goodness it's krystal clear :D , no glue residue on the hood at all and no damage to the spoiler.

Btw, something annoying about krystal clear (KC), since it is water soluble, it seems that even in the "hardened" state, it is STILL water soluble. Bad news if you're thinking about washing a model that has some heavy part glued using KC.

That's supposed to be the livery for the Greddy9. I don't have the decals for the kit yet (the idiot seller from HK forgot to include mine in the box  been trying to get him to replace them).

And it's "Park Green" not lime green (eeksss  ).:finger: j/k

I would say that they are made out of clear styrene plastic...correct me if I am wrong of course....

I mean how to get the dimensions exact? Curvature etc?

Getting the 2D dimension is easy. I used the cut-off headlight cover and trace the shape on a piece of thick clear acetate (clear plastic sheet like transparency but thicker).

Curvature is a problem, that's why mine is flat. You could get the curvature using heatform / vacuform and the cover as the mold. I've tried heatform using those special clear plastic used for plastic canopies, the result's not that great. It's too thin due to the stretching. Maybe I'll try again later.

did you paint it or did you leave it the color that the body came or did you repaint it? if you repainted who makes that color?

PS it looks great so far!
