Blown turbo?

Anyone no how much it would cost to fix a blown turbo? My mechanic is telling me $1500 for a new one is it really that much?

Did it ruin anything else? If it is just the 9b turbo you should be able to find one in good shape for much less than $1500.

You got me actually I blew up the turbo after I disassembled the engine, long story short I almost burned my house down. :screwy:

Well I must be young at heart I'm almost 30. I checked ebay thought I saw one but the guy told me I may need new hood.

if u found a turbo and needed a new hood than it's not a stock turbo. means it's too big to fit under it. a 9b has no issues with the hood(when u consider the turbo's arent even on the top of the motor)

Well if you're serious this time, I suggest going to 3si.org to find all your 3S needs. There's almost always someone parting out their car, meaning good turbos and good prices. Not to mention you could probably find a Stealth there.

well if he's serious about a stealth...and i assume a twin turbo. i havent listed it locally yet...but i'm selling my 92 pearl white dodge stealth rt/tt. great condition except black roof paint. i'm looking for around 10g. it has 64k on it. about to get new tires, new brake rotors, new clutch, and engine tune up(yea a lil late, but better late than never) it's fully loaded for a early build 92(no sunroof option)

wait he cant afford 10g for a stealth tt...haha. dude u better b looking for a high milage vr4 or stealth tt. 10g isnt all that much. check ebay...they average for my milage like 11-15g(except a 99 vr4, they go for like 25g-ish)

^^ If you look hard enough you can easily find a TT that is in good condition with decient miles for under $10k...easy.

Yea Vector I'm looking to spend around 5k. The last one I was told to me was in "mint" condition but when I went to see it it was shooting quarts of oil out of it. The one before that wouldnt even start. Thanks anyway Jason but I'm only interested in a first generation white stealth rt tt.

If you are only wanting to spend $5000 then good luck finding a nice TT. Any TT for $5000 is going to have high miles, issues, and need all kinds of work.

And BTW, There is no decent condition vr4 for under $5000 and if that is really all you can afford at "almost30" then you wont be able to afford the repairs so save yourself now. $7000 is the least you could get one for and that would be a massive steal.

an idea of expenses for my car. 8700 for the car. 9200 including taxes. just put 770 into it on a cam/crank shaft sensor and ecu(the ecu was free...sorta). i need 4 new tires(around 100 a piece maybe more) then balanced and 4 wheel alignment. could also use some paint(around 3g for a decent job on the entire car) needs a clutch(dont know the cost) but it's hanging on by a nerve) and 3rd gear grinds. do i consider my self riped off...yea. but the car also only has 65,000 original miles on it, and is fully loaded and mint interior.
so when ur looking for a vr4 or r/t tt, think 10 in what u should have set aside.
i only chose the stealth bc the supra and rx7 were both 20g and i didnt want to spend that much for 10 yr old cars. and the 2 nissan skyline r32's were 15g, just a lil too much on insurance(cant get grey market had to get exotic). the stealth also offered awd, and good power/tq. i never looked at the z...to much of a girl car imo

we didnt overpay...if nething ur just being stupid...a car is worth what u pay for it.

and when u consider that a 3s is much cheaper than a supra(same class) an rx7(same class) and the same a 300zx(same class) then no we made a smart buy.

u go find urself a stealth tt for 5g, and i can garuntee it'll have a decent list of issues. the only issue on my car since the day i bought it is 3rd gear grinding. everything else is just age
