Braking/ABS problem

2003 Yukon XL.

When I'm braking softly, just prior to the truck coming to a complete stop, it feels like the ABS is engaging. The brake pedal vibrates slightly. When I brake harder, the problem doesn't occur at all. Any thoughts as to what could be going on? The pads front and rear are in good shape so I know it's not that.

That may or may not be the abs, excess rotor runout can have the same same symptoms.

Thanks for your reply. I had already had the rotors and pads checked and they are good.

Headed to the dealer service department later this week to see what the problem is.

The ABS sensors may need to be cleaned. Common issue in the north east.

Hi!
Very often either one of the censors goes bad or riety - which sauses the problem. sometimes very simple check by the mechanic can resolve the issue, assuming that everything is O.K. with the regular brakes.

To close the loop on this, I took it in and it was in fact a bad sensor. They replaced the right front "hub" which was as they said "dropping out". Not quite sure of their terms but that took care of the problem.
